LaunchCast

Help

Start here when using LaunchCast for the first time.

Getting Started

  1. Create a LaunchCast account or sign in.
  2. Use Forecast to review conditions for a flying location.
  3. Record your route with a Garmin, eTrex, phone app, or another device that exports GPX files.
  4. Copy the GPX file to your computer or phone.
  5. Open My Flights, choose Upload GPX, and select the file.
  6. Review the detected sessions before importing when one Garmin file contains several recordings.

Uploading GPX Files

  • The file must use the .gpx extension and be no larger than 10 MB.
  • A single-session file imports as one flight.
  • A cumulative Garmin file opens a preview so you can choose the sessions to import.
  • You may enter a title and notes during upload, then rename the flight later.

Reviewing a Flight

  • The map shows the recorded route.
  • The timeline scrubber moves through the recording from beginning to end.
  • The graph beneath the timeline shows altitude changes during the recording.
  • The glider marker, elapsed time, altitude, and speed move together as you scrub.
  • Rename Flight changes only the displayed title. Delete Flight removes the saved record and its private GPX file.

Understanding Altitude

The altitude shown comes from the GPX recording. On devices without a barometric altimeter, it is GPS-estimated altitude above mean sea level, or MSL.

GPS altitude can wander more than horizontal position. Estimated height above the terrain, or AGL, is planned as a later feature.

Privacy

Uploaded GPX files and flight records are private to your LaunchCast account. Other users cannot open, rename, or delete your flights.

Troubleshooting

  • Confirm the file ends in .gpx and contains usable track points.
  • Reload the page when the map tiles do not appear. The map requires an internet connection.
  • Small bumps in the altitude graph may be GPS measurement noise rather than actual climbs or descents.
  • Use Rename Flight for a misleading title and Delete Flight for an incorrect or test recording.
